Biomats - History & Research
Have you ever wondered why we use Biomats? Are you familiar with Heat Shock Proteins?
The answer lies in a remarkable journey of discovery by Dr. Nobuhiro Yoshimizu, an esteemed oncologist in Japan with extensive experience in cancer treatment, including at the renowned Mayo Clinic in the United States. Upon returning to Japan, he assumed the role of Chief Doctor at the Cyber Knife Cancer Center at Osaka General Hospital, where he treated numerous cancer patients. In his journey, he introduced Biomats into the treatment of over 2,000 cancer patients, leading to a profound revelation. Dr. Yoshimizu's groundbreaking work culminated in his book titled "The Fourth Treatment for Medical Refugees," with a focus on far-infrared thermal therapy. Through his hands-on experience, he discovered the pivotal role played by Heat Shock Protein (HSP) and highlighted one of the primary reasons for using Biomats: to stimulate the generation of Heat Shock Protein within the body. Here's why this discovery is so significant: Increased levels of HSP lead to heightened activity of T-cells, which play a remarkable role in eliminating cancer cells. To witness this extraordinary process, we invite you to watch the video we have uploaded to the right. What are Heat Shock Proteins? In essence, Heat Shock Proteins, or HSPs, are a group of proteins produced by cells in response to various stressors, including elevated temperatures (heat shock), toxins, infection, inflammation, and other cellular stresses. These proteins are the unsung heroes of our body's defense system, and they perform a wide range of essential functions:

In summary, Heat Shock Proteins are integral for cell survival and maintaining cellular balance under adverse conditions. They hold immense promise in research related to cell biology, protein folding, and various diseases, including cancer and neuro-degenerative disorders.
When we considered far infra-red therapy we did consider a sauna, which would take up a lot of "real estate" in our home. Unless you acquire a quite large sauna you also are sitting for the duration of therapy. People with lots of back pain are rarely able to withstand this. We have found that a massage table fitted with a professional sized Bio-Mat, with a bolster under the legs provides a comfortable session for our members. For those with claustrophobia - a BioMat is definitely the way to go! For those who want the full sauna effect - complete with body dripping perspiration, this can be obtained by putting a thermal retention blanket over the person while using the full length Biomat, or by adding a Mini-Biomat over the top of the person. There are people, such as myself, who love the high heat sweat of a sauna-like BioMat session, but I prefer to have my head out from under the high, dry heat. We do caution that several absorbent cotton towels under the body are necessary. Never use synthetic fabrics between the BioMat and the individual. In a clinical setting, it goes without saying, you will need to ensure that washable under-lyings are changed between persons. We hope you find the information about HSP as enlightening and inspiring as we do. If you wish to compare the cost of a BioMat to a sauna you may be considering - please visit this link. If a script is written there is an insurance code for a BioMat. As well, licensed practitioners receive a discount. Veterans and First Responders also receive a $100 discount.
