Boost Your Immune System
Keep your immune system active by stimulating your immune boosting gland - the Thymus, with tapping! A practitioner friend shared this tapping idea and I have been telling my clients for the past two years the wonders of tapping…it helped my husband a lot when he was alive with stage 4 cancer.
What is the thymus and what does it do? Most of you may have never heard of the thymus gland. One resource states, "The thymus gland, despite containing glandular tissue and producing several hormones, is much more closely associated with the immune system than with the endocrine system. The thymus serves a vital role in the training and development of T-lymphocytes or T cells, an extremely important type of white blood cell."
To tap... firmly and gently tap the center of the breastbone with fingertips for 45 seconds, once or twice a day. This can help jumpstart your immune system, and anyone can do this. When you are standing in a shopping line, tap…waiting in line to pick your child up from school, tap... booting up your computer, tap the thymus. Teach your kids to tap the thymus as well!
Shimniok also recommends having immune boosting supplements on hand. Her favorites are listed below, however, one brand may not be identified on this website. Please contact PLW to learn what has worked for her family and clients.
Favorites include:
· Anti oxidant, immune stimulator 3 oz power packet
· Whole Food Greens/Full Spectrum super food
· Buffered Vitamin C Powder (anti microbial properties)
· Vitamin D3 with K2
· Essential Oils of Thieves (or similar), eucalyptus and peppermint
· Body gelee that increases circulation formulated with oils
For those with very compromised immune systems Beta 1-3-d glucan should be taken on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, waiting 30 minutes prior to meal.
Buffered Vitamin C powder is a staple to have on hand - mix with distilled water or filtered water according to the direction on the package. A recommendation is to mix in a quart jar and consume several times a day, adding it to healthy beverages such as an ALL natural energy drink (ask about one of our favorites), which contains vitamins, “brain foods” such as taurine, rhodiola and ginseng, B vitamins, and contains no artificial ingredients. As a bonus, our favorite also helps replenish B vitamins depleted by stress.
To make the immune boosting cocktail Shimniok mixes:
· ¼ c of mixed Vitamin C liquid
· 1 two ounce packet of liquid anti oxidant immune booster
· ½ scoop super greens/full spectrum whole food powder
· 1 1/2 cup distilled or filtered water
· 1 packet energy drink (citrus or pomegranate)
· 10 drops Sovereign Silver Immune Support Collodial Silver
The Vitamin C Foundation recommends adults should take 3000 mg of Vitamin C daily. When making the immune system cocktail, it is not recommended to add an energy drink past 3 or 4 pm. as the herbal based caffeine sources do provide 4-5 hours of slow release energy, and it may interfere with sleeping if taken too late into the day.
Don’t forget the Vitamin D! Shimniok finds that many knowledgeable doctors are now recommending 5000 IU of D containing Vit. K as a part of their preventative regimen. It can be taken as well as the immune boosting cocktail. Vitacost and amazon.com are both excellent sources for supplements if you do not have a reputable local health store nearby. Chewables are even available for those who do not care to swallow pills, although Vitamin D capsules are often some of the smallest supplement capsules on the market. Solaray offers a GMO free capsule (soy based) that offers exactly 5000 IU of Vitamin D with proper ratio of Vitamin K2.
It is important to note these precautions on Vitamin C from Dr. Russell Blaylock: "People with hemochromatosis should avoid vitamin C supplements. I also recommend that people take their vitamin C between meals to avoid excess iron absorption."
Have Essential Oils?
Another way to boost your immune system is through your feet!! Note the trigger points for sinus, nose and lungs in the image below. If you feel something "coming on" consider applying peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils to the frontal sinus and nose trigger points on the feet – not on the face. Using a carrier oil, or the the body gelee mentioned above. The gelee, unlike the oils, can be applied directly to the face, neck and chest in lieu of a popular vapor-rub that contains nearly 100% petroleum jelly, which is an endocrine (hormone) disruptor. It is also wonderful for aches when one has influenza, and as well, it comforts those who have a low-grade fever by providing a cooling effect.
Take note of the “lung” trigger point in the chart below. You may add a drop of Thieves to the body gelee (which also has the oils mentioned for sinus already in its formulation) and has added benefits of increasing circulation.
The Gelee and Thieves combination can also be applied on the top of the foot at the Thymus gland trigger point, behind the big toe to the inside (envision a line between the two toes and intersect across from the ball of the foot). Don’t worry if you are not precise…applying these products in the general area will suffice. Transdermal application is a great way to boost your immune system, as products will be absorbed quickly into your blood stream. (To illustrate this point…think of how nicotine or pain killing drug patches work to aid patients through cravings or alleviate pain. With this in mind…it is important not to use products containing petro-chemicals, parabens or artificial ingredients as toxins are just as readily absorbed as the “good stuff”.)
If you find yourself snowed in, take the time to do a bit of on line shopping to ensure your immune boosting “ammunition” is stock piled in your home, and tap away while watching a favorite holiday movie.
If you are already catching some sort of “viral bug” increase your intake of Vitamin C. The Vitamin C Foundation provides an amount to take if you are fighting an infection.
Recently Shimniok was able to stop a virus in its tracks by taking 20,000 units of Vitamin C in a 24 hour period. Just prior, one of the integrative health podcasts she listened to was a doctor telling listeners how to beat influenza in three hours. He himself had done so, and said he took the vitamin C until he started to make too frequent trips to the restroom…that is how he knew he reached his limit. Although Shimniok does not recommend taking extremely high doses of Vitamin C without supervision from a trusted medical source, this example illustrates the important role of Vitamin C in boosting one’s immune system.
Another important note – both dairy products and gluten based foods, such as breads, bagels, buns, muffins, cookies, etc. will increase mucous production in the body. Try to eliminate these foods as much as possible while fighting a virus infection and you will heal much more quickly. There are many healing benefits to chicken rice vegetable soup!
With each holiday there are many food focused gatherings…and let’s face it, the sugars and foods on the buffet are not ones that typically promote a strong immune system. In fact, our favorite holiday indulgences do the opposite. By boosting your immune system with these simple steps hopefully you can enjoy all the events on your list, including the treats in moderation.
Enjoy life and be well!
