Melon Seed & Foraging Smoothie
Rich in vitamins from melon seeds, and my yard! For more information on the health benefits of cantaloupe seeds read my blog post. In the height of summer, consider this recipe that involves some foraging and saving your melon seeds.
Melon Seed/Foraging Smoothie
6 oz. of filtered water or cold Essentials Detox Tea
1 scoop vegan, soy free * Vanilla Protein
1/2 to 3/4 cup cantaloupe seeds
2 dandelion leaves
1-2 sprigs of wood sorrrel
6 chunks frozen organic mango
6 organic strawberries
1/2 tsp. Barleans flax seed oil
I simply used the cantaloupe seeds from a large melon - using one half. The measurement above is approximate. You may need to add a little more liquid, such as almond milk (free of carrageenan) for desired consistency. Because cantaloupe seed are a rich source of fiber an additional fiber supplement was not added.
A smoothie is a great way to load your body with nutrients that are easy to metabolize and utilize to start your day. The combination of protein and complex carbs from plants, fruit and vegetables is what will help prevent that mid-morning crash.
