TICK KITS - BE PREPARED
At Purely Living Wellness we believe in preparedness and take a proactive, versus reactive, approach to first aid and holistic home care. We keep our home apothecary stocked with the most often needed herbal tinctures, whether they address fever, cough or pain. Dried herbs are on hand to make poultices for an injury or to stop bleeding. Our website provides first aid tips for PMA members, which is $5 annually to join. Before summer begins Purely Living receives numerous calls from panicked parents asking how to remove a tick. Spring 2024 reports are indicating the worst year yet for ticks.
People are simply not prepared. There are certain items to have on hand to immediately address pathogens carried by ticks. Have a tick kit ready at the go. Purely Living sells kits for $35 to PMA members and $38 to non-members, add $6 for shipping.
You can also make your own kit! We encourage you to obtain the items on this list and have more than one kit readily available in your vehicle, home, camper, etc. Below are links to create your own Tick Removal Kit.
Speaking of unseen...this tick was removed my top of my foot on 5-17-24. So tiny it could barely be seen, but I knew I did not have a mole on top of my foot...this tick was so small the tick twister tool did not work. One can use matches very carefully, which is what was done for this tick. You light a match, blow it out, and hold the tip of the hot match to the "rump" of the tick - and it backs out of its lodged location. Yes, you must be very careful. I magnifying glass was used on this tick due to its claim to earning the "tiniest tick I have ever seen" award.

- Waterproof container or pouch to secure all items including instructions.
- Tick Twister helps one properly extract tick with detailed instructions. It removes the tick without leaving the mouthparts in the skin.
- An age old method is to carefully set a flame to the rear of the tick, and it will back out of the skin on its own. Although I am told stories on how well this works, holding a flame so near a person’s skin is very risky.
- Homeopathic – Ledum palustre 200C, protocol to address the pathogens that biting insects are carrying such as Lyme and more. If you live in a tick infested area stock up!
- Homeopathic (optional): Aurum arsenicum is a capital choice for when a poisonous infection arises. You may wish to purchase this product should a tick not be immediately discovered. (Not included in kit. We also recommend a Qest4 bio-energetics scan.)
- Vial or small jar of which the container is ¼ filled with a distilled spirit, such as vodka, to preserve the tick for analysis. Adhere a label to the jar and record the date and where on the body the tick was removed. Purely Living Wellness can analyze the tick using a Qest4 Bio-energetics scan.
- Disinfecting, toxin drawing remedy. Rather than pack multiple items for the task, we recommend Secret Garden Draw n’ Mend Salve, an herbal remedy that both disinfects and draws out toxins. Apply over the bite once the tick is removed. You may wish to pack only a small amount in your kit. Purely Living has jars of Secret Garden's Draw n Mend salve on hand for sale.
- Adhesive bandage to place over affected area.
- Of course prevention is key. The Purely Living Wellness Bug-B-Gone, available in 4 oz. bottles, is safe for both humans and pets. DEET contains neurotoxins that affect the brain cells of all humans, but especially children. Tick collars are toxic to pets as well and have been reported to cause seizures. For DIYers, we have a recipe available - Tick Tac No Blend - follow the link to the recipe to make your own. Apply spray especially onto ankles/socks when you are going to be out walking in grasses. Effective essential oils we have found effective include Edens Garden and Snow Lotus, or Rose Mountain. Brush pet fur backward so that the spray applies to the skin underneath. Consider a summer cut for your dog to make it easier to spot and remove ticks.
