Snoring? To C-PAP or Not...
When your spouse is found sleeping in the bathtub, or your children are sleeping on the living room floor come morning...due to the snoring coming from your bedroom, it is a sign that your snoring may be quite loud. Couples in which one person is a light sleeper and the other snores loudly, can contribute to some marital tension at bedtime...which is not desirable in a healthy relationship. So what can be done to reduce snoring?
I am a light sleeper, my husband used to snore. Through diet change he was able to overcome much of his snoring. My children tell me that I used to snore as well...but they no longer hear me. What was key to reducing my snoring? Weight loss. Reducing inflammation in the body by eliminating food groups contributing to inflammation.
For many, shedding mid-section weight can substantially reduce snoring. The anti-inflammatory diet that we recommend has not only helped 1000s shed inches around the mid-section, the focus of the eating plan helps to reduce mucous build up, which promotes snoring. Food groups such as wheat and dairy, in particular, generate inflammation which then contributes to snoring. Additional contributors to snoring include alcohol consumption, in particular, several glasses of alcohol at night time prior to sleep.
Vitamin C (3-5 grams) is a recommended supplement to reduce swelling of the mucous membranes. Be sure to take this with plenty of water for absorption. I use a buffered Vitamin C powder that has had great reviews. I add a bit to my green smoothie each day, especially during cold and flu season on a regular basis.
Sleep apnea can be serious as it reduces the oxygen flow to the brain. If you have taken the steps listed above and have diligently adhered to them for a month with no improvements, then a C-Pap machine is an option to consider in order to achieve that very necessary restful, and healing night's sleep. Before you do that, however, we recommend you contact sleep specialists at Primal Air in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin who can help you retrain your breathing.
