Blood Healthy Smoothie
When my husband had low red blood cell count we were told by his oncologist one could not reverse his condition with nutrition. A blood transfusion was the "only way". My husband did not want a transfusion. I set about researching...it made no sense to me that food could not boost red blood cells...our blood is MADE from food energy sources.
Did these changes to the diet help? Indeed! But first, it is important to understand why his red blood cell count dropped. Four bulged discs in the lumbar were very painful and he had been on Oxycontin and Oxycodeine. If you read the full disclosure, which one must ask the pharmacist for, these drugs reduce the body's production of red blood cells. We found holistic alternatives to manage the lumbar pain, and the red foods....
In a matter of four weeks Jesse's hemoglobin count went from 8.2 to above the baseline requiring a transfusion. Our doctor called with the news and was impressed by whatever we were doing. I asked about the side effects of the Rx and if they contributed to a number of the issues we were facing (including high cysteine levels) and he admitted that yes, these are side effects. I explained how we found holistic forms of pain management and started daily high doses of red foods, which included at least one smoothie, of which I share my recipe below. I learned about the benefits of the black strap molasses from our holistic cancer coach and added it in to the smoothie for a sweet, red healing meal that is easy to absorb and digest.
Blood Healthy Smoothie
8 oz. Distilled Water
2 Scoops of vegan, soy free *Vanilla Protein Powder (vegan, soy free, zero trace metals)
½ Scoop our favorite *Fiber supplement
1 small beet root (par-cook if blender cannot handle a raw, hard root)
½ scoop super green/full spectrum whole food powder (contains kelp and other natural iron sources)
3 T. coconut milk (from can) or 1 T. MCT coconut oil (powdered form)
1 T. Blackstrap Molasses (for anemia, take daily until issue is resolved)
4-7 fresh mint leaves (mint helps offset taste of beets)
If one has issues with metabolically absorbing trace minerals, add 1/8 tsp. of Quantum Energy Fulvic Humic Minerals supplement to the smoothie (available from Purely Living). This supplement is completely tasteless and will assist in absorption.
If you are feeling sluggish and anemia is a deemed the root cause - it is really a misnomer. Anemia is, according to Morley Robbins in the Root Cause Protocol, dysfunctional iron. It is a lack of copper in the body, which controls the absorption of iron and ensures that iron does not build up. Iron that "sits" unused will rust, and promotes oxidative stress. Since 2010 I have been passionate about researching ingredients of products, and as my husband went through his cancer journey in 2014 and I was always seeking the best. Please contact Purely Living Wellness to learn more about the brands we value and trust.
