At Blackhawk Church we have been doing a series called "Down and Out". Some of the messages hit home, hard. But it is all good. We close with the same verse from 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 at each service: "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
The words "wasting away" jump out at me each time. My husband was wasting away from Lyme's - although until near his end we did not know he had that going against him as well as the abnormal cells. But Jesse always kept his eyes on the unseen. Whichever path God chose, healing or taking him home, he was at peace.
My road is very different because of our journey. My business is different. My days are different. God is putting people in my path...people I can serve and people who are serving me. Blessed.
The night of June 7 at the hospital Abby and I sang the worship song Oceans to Jesse. We had heard it at church that morning and Abby just started singing. Along with a Fernando Ortega song. When we worship and WAC plays "Oceans" it breaks down Abby's resolve not to cry. That song will never be "just another song" for her. I had an art print made of the photo above, which I took in California in April. When I saw that shore and waves washing up, I immediately thought of "Oceans". She has to get through this school day, which is going to be tough for her, and I will not give her the print until later today when we can cry and comfort one another alone.
It is a beautiful day to visit Jesse's tree. And despite that I have business engagements today that I probably would have passed on had I made the correlation of the date, at the time, I will find time to sit alone in Jesse's oasis, and watch for the sign from the heavenly realm that is sure to be released for my benefit.
I so look forward to the day when I enter in to eternal glory, noting that each day here, and its troubles are truly...only temporary.
In peace and love,
Rita S.
