Sure there is...but like everything else, in moderation.
Tips on purchasing bacon or any processed meats - avoid those containing nitrates and nitrites. According to board certified neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock these two common preservatives are major contributors to pancreatic cancer in the United States, due to our love of processed meats.
Bacon made without preservatives has a short shelf-life. A suggestion from Purely Living Wellness is to buy a package of "clean" bacon, and cook it all up at once, and then freeze the bacon. If you like your bacon extra crispy, par-cook for freezing, and when you are ready to enjoy - cook it some more.
We have discovered an excellent time saver in preparing perfect bacon. Place thick sliced bacon on a jelly roll pan and place on a middle rack in an oven pre-heated to 400 degrees. Set the timer for 20 minutes, which should produce nearly perfect crispy bacon. As oven temperatures do vary, as do cooking times depending upon the material of the jelly roll pan - start with fewer minutes and keep an eye on your bacon. We use a stoneware jelly pan which really does produce just the right amount of crispness on both sides. Thinly sliced bacon will obviously require less baking time. When you remove the jelly roll pan of bacon, done just the way you like it, set on hotpads that are stacked so that one end is lower than the other, which allows the grease to drain. Using tongs, remove bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to pat off the excess grease, and store in a container for future use.
Always look for meats that are from animals that have not been injected with anti-biotics, hormones, or fed GMO crops. Remember, that which goes into the animal goes into you...and affects your health at the cellular level. For that reason, we encourage you to get to know your local farmer and their best practices for producing sustainable, healthy food for your dinner table.
