Years ago I was on a whale watching excursion, and we were able to see a whale feed on the krill that were themselves consuming phytoplankton on top of the water. I had always assumed that krill were TOP feeders, and the biologist telling us about sea life did not state otherwise.
As well, I had been taught, that the best sources of fish oil Omegas were from the tiniest of sea life - sardines, anchovies, and krill. Being small, they had less toxins such as mercury. The same podcast interview, which as a part of the Truth About Cancer series, said to avoid bottom feeding seafood such as shrimp and lobster. Bottom feeders are scavengers and consume pretty gross things...such as decaying sea animals.
Per Wikipedia: "Krill are small, shrimp-like crustaceans that are found in the oceans and are an important part of the marine food chain. They are omnivores, which means they eat both plants and animals. Their diet consists mainly of: Phytoplankton: microscopic plants that float near the surface of the water, such as diatoms, dinoflagellates, cryptophytes, prasinophytes, and other types. Zooplankton: small, usually microscopic, animals that drift in the water, such as copepods and other small crustaceans. Algae: various types of algae, including green, red, and brown algae. Small invertebrates: such as small fish, larvae, and other small animals."
All of the above was on the page hit...it is what one could readily read, without clicking on "more". When I did so - I was surprised to learn that krill may also eat:
Per Wikipedia: "Detritus: decaying organic matter that sinks to the seafloor.
Carrion: the flesh of dead animals."
Although krill oil contains Vitamins A, D, E Dr. Alphonzo Monzo states, "I find it hard to believe that the krill oil will be clean. Krill are Biblically unclean. All unclean animals are scavengers and eat the toxins."
As we should be cautious, and avoid eating unclean shrimp, crab and lobster, so as we shall avoid krill - for the bottom of ocean is known for settlement of heavy metals such as mercury, chemical sediment, and diseased or decaying flesh.
Regarding Omega 3 supplements - it would be wise to ensure that the company offering krill oil has multiple testing done for purity from outside lab sources.
In peace and wellness,
