Signs that one may have kidney stones is a stabbing pain below the ribs or back, in the lower abdomen area or in the groin. Pain while urinating may be another sign that stones may be present. If you have terrible pain and believe you may have kidney stones please consult your primary care physician. Once you have kidney stones you are more susceptible to a recurrence. Stones are bits of dissolved, crystallized minerals found in the urine. If your body is working as it ought, these stones are naturally broken down and passed. It is when the body fails to break them down and they start to "snowball" that one has a problem

Years ago I learned about the kidney stone breaking properties of Queen Anne's Lace. It also has mild liver cleansing properties, and can help prevent uric acid from building up in the joints, thereby giving relief for sufferers of gout. Such a delicate flower...yet it is a real "bad ass" once you realize it's many healing benefits, of which I mention only a few in this blog post.
In addition to it's anti-allergy properties Goldenrod also has the ability to break down kidney stones due to its phenolic compound called glycosides. This also delivers anti-inflammatory properties to the urinary tract. My original stone-splitting tincture was to be a solo number in Queen Anne's Lace, but upon learning more about the properties of Goldenrod, I called on my higher Spirit which guided me into creating a combo of the two - which I am dubbing STONE SPLITTER.
I have menstruum of Stone Splitter ready to bottle in a few weeks, but was happy to find more Queen Anne's Lace today to make another pint jar of menstruum, which may yield another four, maybe five, 2 ounce bottles. Taking this tincture is recommended as a preventative for anyone who is a regular sufferer of stones.
In our family, if one has painful kidney stones I suggest taking equal parts of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and extra virgin olive oil several times a day, for days, until the stones pass. Citric acid in the lemon, or lime may be used, will prevent the stones from becoming bigger and olive oil will help coat the stones for less painful elimination. It is also critical to be drinking a "TON" of water to flush them out, or better yet - tea made of dried goldenrod or Queen Anne's Lace. If you have stinging nettle leaf around, you can add that in as well.
Need a few more perks to fall in love with these two plants? Queen Anne’s lace is reported to increase the metabolism, thus helping one to lose weight. During the Civil War it has reported use as a anodyne, or pain reliever and as an antiseptic, by Confederate surgeon, Dr. Francis Peyre Porcher. Goldenrod is also a wonderful preventative for those who suffer from ragweed allergies in the fall.
I am loving this time of year...cooler temperatures. It is great for foraging and collecting flowers in the morning after the dew has evaporated. I spotted a nice patch of prime for the picking red clover this morning...a great plant for women's health.
In love, peace and light,
Rita S.
